Liverpool striker Divock Origi hopes he can impress Jurgen Klopp by scoring goals for Belgium ahead of next weekend's Merseyside derby
Divock Origi is facing a hectic 10 days before the Merseyside derby - but the Liverpool forward is not complaining. Origi is currently away on international duty and is likely to feature for Belgium in their World Cup Qualifier against Greece on Saturday followed by the friendly with Russia on Tuesday.
Following that, the 21-year-old will return to Melwood and turn his focus towards Liverpool's clash with neighbours Everton on April 1.His Belgium team-mates Simon Mignolet (Liverpool), Romelu Lukaku (Everton) and Kevin Mirallas(Everton) also face a quick turnaround ahead of the match at Anfield, but Origi is taking the potentially heavy schedule in his stride.
"We'll get back home on Wednesday"Origi said.
"As a footballer you need to adapt. It will be a long trip, then all the focus will be on recovery.
Origi is preparing for Belgium's double-header against Greece and Russia
"It's a big game. A big game. Everton are in a good way at the moment so it will be an important game for both teams."
Origi has started just seven matches for Liverpool this season and is likely to begin the match against the Toffees on the bench, with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho the preferred front three under Jurgen Klopp.
"I want to play more and I want to express myself but, in the end, all I can do is get to my highest level and then it's the manager's choice," he added.
Liverpool currently are on the fourth position in the Premier League and victory over their in-form local rivals would certainly help them in their bid to secure Champions League football for next season.Everton are six points behind Liverpool in sixth place and could put themselves firmly in the mix for a top four spot if they secure their first win at Anfield since 2000.
Origi says he is hoping to start more games under Jurgen Klopp . Origi's national teammate, Lukaku, has been a driving force behind Everton's fine form, but the 22-goal striker has thrown his future into doubt by refusing to sign a new deal at Goodison Park. When asked about the 23-year-old's Everton future, Origi said:
"Oh. Good try. That's one for you to ask him."
